MCA (2 Year Full Time/ Lateral Entry)



Master Degree in Computer Application (MCA) 2 Year Full time Course is an attempt to synchronize the newest developments in Information Technology with the current industry Requirements. The course is affiliated to Dibrugarh University and is approved by AICTE, MHRD, Govt. of India.


MCA is a course exclusively designed to meet the IT Requirements of IT Trained students for various organizations. The programme is extremely balanced with lot of emphasis given on planning, designing and building of complex commercial application software and system software, with equal importance given to functional knowledge in various areas. The 2 Year Full Time MCA Course is not just a postgraduate course, it is a complete professional grooming of the students for successful career in IT industry. The program is intended to have the following objected:

1.To appreciate the role of computers and information technology in the present world, with its potential for development in the future.
2. To enable a proven level of mastery in the operating systems, programming languages, rapid application development (RAD) tools, and application package that are in extensive use in the industry.
3.To develop analytical, problem solving and decision making skills that are demanded by information technological applications.
4. To develop all round personality and communicative traits to meet the expectation of employees in both public and private sectors.


The 2 Year Full Time MCA Programme at NERIM School of Computer Science is conducted as per the prescribed regulation and syllabi of Dibrugarh University. The course is also approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), MHRD, Govt. of India.


As per the regulation and course syllabi of Dibrugarh University, the 2 Year Full Time MCA Programme consists of 4 Semesters each of 6 months duration, having 2 semesters per Year. In addition tio compulsory papers, the students are offered to select 2 electives in 5 semester of the programme. However, in the 6 semester the students shall be required to undertake a Project Work of 6 months duration.

MCA-601 System Development Project II      



Students of BCA, BSc IT, BSc Computer Science with atleast 50% marks (45% for SC/ ST/ OBC) in aggregate, is eligible to apply for admission into the two year MCA programme.

Selection Procedure:

Selection for Admission into 2 year full time MCA programme shall be made on the basis of NERIM Entrance Test (NET) for MCA. The entrance test of 100 mark shall comprise of questions from Mathematics, Reasoning, Computer Science and General Awareness.


N.B.: Eligibility Criteria and procedure for Admission is subject to change from time to time as per the notification of the University.


Requirement of Classroom Attendance:

A student of MCA (2 Year Programme) shall have to attend minimum 80% of total classes to be eligible to appear in each End Semester examination conducted by Dibrugarh University.

Examination (As per regulation of the Dibrugarh University):

There shall be 4 exminations at the end of each semester, semester III, semester IV, semester V and semester vI respectively, to be conducted by the University at such dates and times as may be fixed by the University. Each paper shall be of 100 marks of which 75 marks will be End semester examination and 25 marks will be for Internal. There shall be major project work presentation/ Viva Voce in semester VI Examination.


Award of Degree:

Successful candidates shall be awarded the degree of Master of Computer Application by Dibrugarh University. Candidated securing 60% and above will be awarded First class and those who securing 45% or more but less than 60% will be awarded Second class.
